Pharmacists Testimonies

Other Pharmacists speak

Joseph’s testimony

Hi, I am a practising pharmacist in Ireland (M.P.S.I.) who does not dispense the morning after pill or the contraceptive pill.  As a young pharmacist I used to dispense these drugs and I began to question my involvement in the supply of these drugs.  I have always had a profound respect for the miracle of new human life but I felt my role in dispensing these drugs, that are anti-life, was a complete contradiction.  How could I in good conscience continue to earn a living from something that was not only destroying life but destroying life that totally incapable of defending itself.  From a scientific perspective I knew that that the tiny embryo was as complete a person as I was, genetically.  How could I as a compassionate reasonable human being be involved in the destruction of another human being?  I have faced ridicule from some of my colleagues regarding my decision but have had great support from others as well.

Matthew's testimony

I worked in retail pharmacy for many years dispensing contraception and the so-called 'morning after pill'. Then I read Evangelium Vitae by Pope John Paul II (1995), which states 'that rejection of human life, in whatever form that rejection takes, is really a rejection of Christ' (para 104). Since I no longer wanted to reject Christ, I made the decision to cease dispensing abortifacients. No retail pharmacy was prepared to employ me.

The reason that I have decided to stop dispensing the 'morning after pill' is because it is an insult to God.  It is an insult to my profession. It goes against my conscience. Life is sacred and it belongs to God. It is disrespectful to the unborn. It is harmful to the patients (women) concerned.  It goes against Gods law and the law engraved in my heart, and the teachings of the church, and reason.  It would be living a lie to dispense map.  I want to have a clear conscience.  I will be judged by God based on my actions.

With God's help, I found pharmacy employment outside of the retail sector, which is safe for a pro-life pharmacist to work in. Jesus said in the gospel of Matthew(10:32) "Every one therefore that shall confess me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven.

But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven."
